Typosquatters are out to steal your traffic. They do this by registering domains that are
typographical errors, spelling mistakes and other mutations of your name. If left
unchecked, this problem can result in hundreds of domains held by a number of individuals
cashing in at your expense, leaving you to clean up the mess and count the cost. By this
stage, the best you can realistically hope for is to reclaim some of the higher traffic
domains through arbitration or through a lawsuit. A partial victory in a battle you didn't
want in the first place.
It's not all bad news though. A good defensive strategy can put a stop to this nonsense before
it even begins. The Mutonomy service does exactly this, proactively registering these
names on your behalf, ahead of the typosquatters.
